biggy.

This is my precious grandpa Elmo Meroney - AKA to his grandkids "Biggy". With all of my heart I love and respect this man. We celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday afternoon with a beautiful (and successful) surprise party in Houston.

I've obviously known Biggy my whole life. He is a man on the go and more active than any 80 year old I've known: tennis at the club, international vacations, volunteer reading at the elementary school, 5th grade Sunday School leader since forever, leader of Tallowood's prison ministry out in Huntsville for years, avid Baylor supporter, etc... When does the man sleep?

I can attest to his faithfulness. Every time I stayed with him in Houston, or he came to Colleyville to see us, or we traveled together on vacation, I would wake up to find him sipping coffee in his full length silk pajamas, wide awake for hours, reading his Bible and spending time in prayer. In fact, he gave me the Bible I use nearly every day for my high school graduation. In it, he wrote "Reading God's Word every day will show you how much He loves you!" I know my life has been covered in prayer every day because of this man.

I can also attest to his hilarious sense of humor. He is witty and sometimes his humor goes right over peoples heads. I love it though. At his party, people spoke tributes or roasts to Biggy. His example is one I hope to emulate. His faithfulness, his humor, his integrity, his unmistakable love for his family.

And on the note of his sense of humor, I do believe it is a bit genetic. Case in point: Austin, my precious, mature 22 year old brother, thought it would be awesome to discretely stick name tags on my back without my knowledge during the party. He still refuses to tell me how long they were there before I noticed.
