caught.

This is my true confession of the day:

I had class this morning. Despite talking with numerous students every week about the importance of going to class and discouraging the dreaded "t" word (truancy), I have discovered that in this class of 300+ students it is quite simple to scan in...and walk out. Timing is everything. Be there at the beginning and then at the end. Beyond that, go sit at Starbucks and do some actual work or studying.

It's bad, I know. I told you this would be my confession.

Today, I was caught. And I have no one to blame but myself for my stupidity. Today, I thought "I'll walk in, go to the restroom, and walk out the back door."

Good strategy.

However, there was no back door, only a side door. Naturally, I walked out the side door instead. This door led to a courtyard. Not deterred, I walked through the courtyard to the courtyard gate, which I presumed would let me outside to freedom. However, the gate was locked.

I realized fairly quickly I would be forced to go back inside and come up with a new strategy.

The problem came, when the door leading back inside was also locked. I stood outside and laughed, considered briefly hopping the fence (7-8 foot high concrete), but I do have boundaries.

So, after several minutes standing outside in the cold trying to come up with a plan, I knocked on the door and got let back inside.

I walked immediately to class. No explanation given. Back to class, where I belonged.

Lesson learned...

*Jess said I had to repost this when I told her I wrote it from Starbucks an hour into class. Yeah, I didn't really learn my lesson apparently. Just delayed my exit for a more appropriate time.
